Iraqi activist: Imam Khomeini Originator of Islamic Media Discourse in Contemporary Era

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Imam Khomeini (RA) was a pioneer in using Islamic media terms that are now prevalent in the media of the Islamic world, said an Iraqi researcher and media activist.Ala Al-Khatib added that Imam Khomeini (RA) can be regarded as the originator of Islamic media language in the present era.He said the Islamic world media used to face a shortage of media terms before so they mostly used terms that are widespread in western media.“For instance, the word ‘fundamentalist’ that is used by western media to refer to biased and radical Christian groups in the Middle Ages has nothing to do with fundamentalism in the Islamic culture.”Other examples are ‘third world’ and ’terrorist’ that used in a manipulated sense by the western media, he stated.Director of Dar-ol-Hikma Institute in London added that Imam Khomeini (RA) believed that the media by using powerful words and terms exploit the public opinion.“Hence, instead of western terms, he used Quranic and Islamic terms that are now common in media circles.Imam Khomeini (RA) used the word ‘Taghout’, which is a Quranic term, instead of ‘dictator’, or the word ‘arrogance’ that has a more powerful connotation instead of colonialism, Al-Khatib added.“So, Imam Khomeini (RA) was a pioneer in using Islamic terms that are now common in the media outlets of the Muslim world.”Ala Al-Khatib is an Iraqi scholar and media activists and author of books like “Islam in the Netherlands” and “Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) and Their Influence in Western Countries”. /129
